Hi Michelle! You can absolutely substitute! If you have a fresh orange on hand, use a little zest at the end of cooking (about ½ to 1 teaspoon) for a similar brightness. If that’s not available, a small splash of orange extract works too, just use it sparingly since it’s strong. Or you can even simmer fresh orange peel in the broth, then remove it before serving. And if none of those are easy to find, don’t worry, the soup will still be delicious. A touch of extra ginger or a splash of rice vinegar at the end adds that same fresh balance.
